Hiroki Kuroda Signs with the Yankees for $10 million

Andrew Marchand of ESPNNewYork.com is reporting former Dodger pitcher Hiroki Kuroda has signed a one year $10 million dollar contract with the New York Yankees.  According to Marchand, the 36-year old Kuroda's new deal is contigent on him passing his physical.  You can view the full article by clicking here .

Kuroda spent four seasons withs the Boys in Blue posting a 41-46 record with a 3.45 ERA.
I'll miss seeing Kuroda in a Dodger uniform.  His record may not reflect it but he was a good pitcher in his four years with the team.

Eric Dickerson Signing - Photos & Recap

On Saturday December 3, 2011, OC Sports Cards put on a signing at their shop with NFL Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson.  OC Sports Cards is the sister store of The OC Dugout which put on the Dee Gordon signing back on August 27th.  For my recap & photos of that signing click here .  The Dickerson signing was scheduled to run from 11:00 am to 1:00pm.

I had purchased my tickets in advance but decided to shop up at 10:00am just in case there was a long line.  When I arrived at 10:00am, the shop was open but since I didn't see a line forming outside, I walked a few shops down to Starbucks and got a snack.  When I came back out there was one person starting a line, so I figured I'd be the second person.  Within a few minutes a steady stream of people began lining up.  Just a few minutes before 11:00am, Dickerson showed up and headed into the shop.

It was looks like is becoming an OC Dugout & OC Sports Cards tradition, they provided free pizza to everyone in line.  After about 15-20 minutes of signing these for the shop & promoters, the line was moved into the shop.  They allowed about 5 people in at a time.  Dickerson was very friendly and was posing for photos with anyone who asked.  When I entered the shop, my estimate was there was about 40 people in line.

As I approached Dickerson, he was really chatty and signed two mini-helmets for me.  One I am keeping for myself and the other I gave as a Christmas gift to my nephew.  I also had Dickerson sign a 1984 Los Angeles Rams Yearbook i've been saving since I bought it as a kid in 1984.  The yearbook has Rams Hall of Famers, Eric Dickerson, Jack Youngblood and Jackie Slater on the cover along with former Rams, Johnnie Johnson, Nolan Cromwell and Vince Ferragamo.  I had Jack Youngblood sign the yearbook at a previous appearance linked here .  When I handed Dickerson the yearbook he started laughing and commenting on his old hair style from 1984!

Once Dickerson, signed my items, I  took a picture with him, grabbed a couple slices of pizza and headed to another signing.

Take a look at my pics from the signing below:

Overall it was another good signing put on by OC Sports Cards.  Don't forget they have another Dee Gordon signing coming up at Frank & Sons.  For more info on that signing check out my post here

NFL Hall of Famer Jack Youngblood Book Signing - Photos & Recap

Back in September, Former Los Angeles Rams Hall of Famer Jack Younblood along with auther D.W. Cooper released his second biography, Because It Was Sunday - The Legend of Jack Younblood.  On October 23, 2011, Youngblood had a book signing at the ESPN Zone located at L.A. Live in Downtown Los Angeles.  A Q&A session was also scheduled to begin at 11:30.  During the week on Facebook, Youngblood confirmed he would sign copies of his book and other items that fans wanted to bring. He also stated he planned to bring other former Rams with him including Fred Dryer, Vince Ferragamo and Rich Saul.

I arrived by 10:30 and realized the big viewing room where the signing was to take place was already full of Rams fans eating and watching Sunday morning NFL games.  Since the room was full I took a seat at the bar ordered a drink and had some lunch.  I bought a copy of the book in the ESPN Zone gift shop and entered the viewing room around 11:15 for the Q&A.  I stood along the wall since there were no seats but much to my surprise this eventually became the line for autographs and I happened to be first in line!

During the Q&A Youngblood's former teammate and actor Fred Dryer joined him and the two NFL greats reminisced.  For reasons unknown, Ferragamo and Saul did not show up. Once the Q&A was complete there were a few minutes of down time and as Fred Dryer walked by me, I asked him if he'd sign my 1980 Topps card.  He agreed and I busted out my blue sharpie.
Take a look at the signed card.

After about 5 minutes the book signing began.  It was announced due to media commitments and the large crowd, Youngblood would not be signing outside items until everyone's book was signed and then he would sign fan items.  Youngblood, signed my book and was very talkative.  I told him I still had my signed copy of his first biography and he said, I should enjoy this one too.  After he signed my book, I took a chance and asked him if he'd sign my Rams 1984 OfficialYearbook. There was a few second hesitation and he just signed it. I thanked him, shook his hand and headed home!  It was a great experience and as a life long long suffering Rams fan, it was a good day.

Take a look at my signed book with the HOF 01 inscription and some other pics.  I will post pictures of the signed yearbook in my next post.
