Matt Barnes Autograph Signing - Photos & Recap

On Saturday October 26, 2013, Matt Barnes of the Los Angeles Clippers was scheduled to sign autographs at the Sports Authority in Hawthorne, CA.  Even though Matt is a currently a Clipper and is a former Laker, I had a few photos from Matt's UCLA days I wanted to get signed.  Barnes was scheduled to sign from 3pm to 4pm.  It's sometimes tough to gauge the turnout for a free event like this so I decided to arrive a couple hours early.  Luckily when I arrived, I was about the fifteenth person in line.  There were definitely lots of Clipper fans in line.

Right around 3pm the Sports Authority staff let a group of twenty into the store.  As I approached the front of the line, I asked one of Matt's handlers if he was only signing one item per person.  He said no, Matt will sign anything you have.  After hearing that, I prepped two photos for Matt to sign.  I had a total of four but I didn't want to be greedy.  I handed Matt my two photos and a silver paint pen and he proceeded to sign over his white jersey and needless to say, the silver doesn't show well.  So on the second photo I specifically asked him to sign in the dark area.  Before he signed it, he called one of his sons over to see a picture of his dad with no tattoos.  His handlers/family liked my UCLA photos so much, they asked if I could lay them out on the table so they could take pictures of them.

I then asked if they wanted to see my two other UCLA photos and one of the females said, "why don't you have Matt sign them too, you never know when you will have this opportunity again."  Not one to disagree, I took out my other two photos and Barnes was nice enough to sign those too.  Matt Barnes was class act.  He signed multiple items and took posed photos with anyone who asked. I also have to mention a couple of graphers I got to see on Saturday.  I ran into DodgerBobble and Juan at the signing.  It was a great signing at Sports Authority!

Paul Lo Duca and Shawn Green Autograph Signing - Photos and Recap

On Saturday October 12, 2013, former Dodger stars Paul Lo Duca and Shawn Green were scheduled to participate in a meet and greet at the EDCO Recycling and Transfer Center in Signal Hill, California.  Both were scheduled to appear from 11am - 1pm.  Due to the this signing not being heavily advertised, I decided to arrive at 9:30 am and hoped the line wouldn't be too long.

Once I arrived, I got in line and there were only approximately 30 people in front of me.  I was in line with a few other Dodger graphers including DodgerBobble, Clint R. and Alex A.  EDCO Recycling and 710 ESPN radio were holding a environmental fair along with the signing and provided free popcorn, pizza and bottled water.  Thanks to DB for hooking up the extra Shawn Green card and thanks to Clint for hooking up the Lo Duca card!

Both Shawn Green and Paul Lo Duca arrived on time and began signing at 11am.  710 ESPN staff informed everyone that they would sign two items per person.  As I made my way to the front and prepped my items.  I got Lo Duca and Green on ROMLB and one baseball card each.  The line was so short I got back in line again and got two more baseball cards signed by Shawn Green and a photo signed by Paul Lo Duca.  Thanks to Juan for hooking me up with the photo.  After all was said in done I ended up with four items signed by Shawn Green and three by Paul Lo Duca and was done within an hour.

Take a look at my pics below.

Dodger Broadcasting Changes - Steve Lyons and Eric Collins Will Not Return

According to Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times, the announcing team of Eric Collins and Steve Lyons will not return for the 2014 season.  Collins and Lyons call all Dodger road games outside California and Arizona.  Collins just completed his fifth season as a Dodger broadcaster and Lyons has worked on Dodgers television for nine years.

According to Shaikin team officials have not confirmed the decision to let Collins go.  Beginning next season, the Dodgers broadcast rights belong to Time Warner Cable.  Much like their deal with the Lakers, Time Warner will create a regional sports network around Dodger programming.  Programming schedules and new broadcasters will be announced in the off season.  Rick Monday, Charley Steiner, Fernando Valenzuela, Pepe Yniguez, and Jaime Jarrin are all expected to return in 2014.

Time Warner Cable SportsNet recently announced the addition of Byron Scott and Luke Walton have joined the network's on-air team.  They will both be part of Lakes pre- and post-game shows.  Scott played 10 years in a Lakers uniform winning three NBA titles with the Lakers and Walton wore the purple and gold for 9 seasons winning two NBA titles along the way.

TWC SportsNet has done really well hiring former Lakers players for their broadcasts.  I hope they do the same when it comes to their Dodgers broadcasts.  I'm not sure what his contract status is with Fox Sports, but I would like to see Eric Karros be part of Dodger broadcasts.

This Date in Dodger History - Mike Scioscia and Kirk Gibson Homeruns

On October 9, 1988, the New York Mets hosted the Dodgers in Game 4 of the 1988 NLCS. Trailing 4-2 in the top of the ninth with John Shelby on first, Mike Scioscia pulled a Dwight Gooden pitch over the right field fence for a 2-run game tying homerun. The game went extra innings and in the top of the twelfth, Kirk Gibson hit a homerun to give the Dodgers a 5-4 lead. Even though he was the starting pitcher the day before in Game 3, Orel Hersisher came in to pitch the bottom of the twelfth and got the save! The win tied the series at two games a piece. Check out the video below.

Darryl Strawberry Autograph Signing - Photos & Recap

On Saturday September 28, 2013, former Mets, Dodgers, and Yankees outfielder Darryl Strawberry was scheduled to sign autographs at the Long Beach Coin Expo from 12pm - 1:30pm.  After I obtained the autograph of A.J. Ellis, I hung around the expo and wanted for Strawberry to arrive.  Shortly after 12pm, Darryl sat down and began signing.  I was the second person in line and was done within a matter of minutes.  Darryl was in a great mood and asked how I was doing.  I told him I was doing well and thanked him for his time.  I handed him a program from the 1988 National League Championship Series and he said, he remembered the series well especially since "we lost".  He put a nice big clean signature on the program for me and then signed my ROLMB.  I had him add the 83 NL ROY inscription on the ball.

Check out the photos below.
